POYNETTE - The Juda-Albany softball team split two games at the Poynette Jamboree, concluding both in a dramatic, one-run difference Friday.
In the first match up, Juda-Albany senior Nicki Becker had an RBI single in the seventh inning, scoring senior Victoria Euclide-Petig to give the Panthers a thrilling 5-4 win over Division 3 Amherst. In the second game, River Valley edged Juda-Albany 5-4.
"I'm still trying to discover our team," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said of the defending WIAA Division 4 state champions. "I'm still unsettled on one or two spots. My goal was to use this as more evaluation time on the field. It's later in the year, but with all of the games postponed early we didn't get as many games like we are now."
Juda-Albany sophomore Emily Makos started the game against Amherst and gave up four runs - one earned - struck out four and walked three. Becker pitched four shutout innings, gave up three hits and struck out seven.
The Panthers trailed 4-2 after two innings, but rallied to win.
"It's nice to play two teams you would see in the second round or third round of regionals and play a quality game," Davis said.
In the game against River Valley, Brianna Crull went 2-for-2. Senior Hailey Kammerer finished 2-for-3 with a triple and Becker was 2-for-4 with a double.
Becker pitched a complete game and gave up five runs - one earned - struck out seven and walked two.

The Badger South game against the Vikings has been rescheduled for Monday. The Cheesemakers will play Waunakee in a doubleheader today at Madison College.
