MONROE - Oregon scored four goals in the third period to cruise to a 7-2 win over the Monroe boys hockey co-op on Friday.

"We just couldn't get the bounces," Monroe coach Josh Smith said. "It really should have been a 4-2 game. If we would have got the bounces to go our way we could have taken it. As a cohesive unit this was probably one of our best games."

It was an even game in the first period until the Panthers scored a goal late in the period.

"We controlled the game the entire first period until Oregon put one in the final 15 seconds," Smith said. "We let up a little bit in the second period and had two big collapses that led to two goals."

Monroe freshman Travis Edmunds scored a third-period goal to cut the Panthers' lead to 5-1. Freshman Jared Dillon of Monroe scored a goal later in the third period on assists by senior Cade Martin of Belleville and Colton O'Connor of Orangeville to cut the Panthers' lead to 5-2.

Oregon outshot the Avalanche (1-14, 0-7 Badger South) 53-28.

Monroe freshman goalie Heath Bear had a game-high 46 saves.
