Brodheads J.J. Panoske goes up for a shot in a game against Belleville last season. Panoske decommitted from UW-Green Bay, just three months after verbally committing to the Phoenix.
BRODHEAD - Junior big man J.J. Panoske has backed out of a verbal commitment with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, opening up his basketball recruitment once again.

"I noticed that I kind of rushed into this decision," Panoske said. "I knew I was too young and I should have weighed my options. Green Bay is a good school and it will probably still be high on my list, but I want to see what else is out there."

On July 26, Brodhead's 6-feet, 9-inch, do-it-all forward gave the nod to the Phoenix because he liked the school and wanted to get his choice out of the way, allowing him to concentrate solely on basketball without worrying about a school losing interest if he were to become injured.

Just weeks ago, Panoske started second-guessing his decision.

"I've been thinking about it for about three weeks. It's been on my mind constantly," he said. "Me and my dad had quite a few conversations about it. I knew I couldn't rush into my decision (to decommit) like I did to commit. I also talked it over with my high school coach (Brian Kammerer) and a few of my close friends as well as an assistant AAU coach from Roncalli who has been big in my recruitment process. I just took what everyone said and used it as advice. Then I slept on it and I made a decision on my own."

Since decommiting, Panoske is already getting looks from other schools.

"Just today (Wednesday) UW-Milwaukee came to an open gym and offered me," Panoske said, adding that an assistant offered in person because head coach Rob Jeter was unable to attend.

He said he hopes that one day Wisconsin may come calling, but he stayed reserved, knowing that it is hard to make it to a big-time program.

"You've just got to be more realistic," he said.

Panoske goes back to work for the Cardinals when practice opens up Nov. 16. He will be eligible to play in college starting in the 2011-12 season.
