Orioles upend Comets

ARGYLE - The Argyle baseball team received solid pitching performances and timely hitting to knock off Albany, 6-4, Monday.

Argyle (2-1, 1-0 Six Rivers East) took the lead with a three-run fifth off Albany senior Kevin Schultz. Argyle junior Matthew Rosebrook singled and advanced on an error. Senior Nick Martin picked up the RBI. Sophomore Stephan Shambrook reached on a fielder's choice and junior Charlie Rubio followed with a two-run single.

Orioles junior Nate Thomas pitched three innings and had five strikeouts. Martin threw four innings and struck out four and got the win.

Comets sophomore Ty Mauerman went 2-for-4 and Schultz was 2-for-5.

Albany senior Bryce Hulbert and Schultz each pitched three innings with two strike outs.

Barneveld 19,

Black Hawk 1

SOUTH WAYNE - Three Barneveld pitchers combined to toss a no-hitter to beat Black Hawk Monday in five innings.

Barneveld's Weston Peterson threw three shutout innings and struck out seven to get the win.

Black Hawk sophomore Michael Walker pitched four innings and gave up 11 runs on five hits. The Warriors were plagued by four errors. Josh Slaney was 3-for-4 to lead the Golden Eagles.

In other area action, Monticello knocked off Shullsburg-Benton, 6-4.
