ARGYLE - The Orioles got a breath of fresh air just in time for the showdown with Black Hawk. Senior all-conference performer Ashley Bruehlman, who had been out with a lower leg injury for two weeks, helped Argyle roll to a three-set sweep of the Warriors Thursday, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19.
Bruehlman had 11 kills, a team-best 13 digs, and six aces, and teammate Jena Saalsaa, a junior, racked up a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs. Argyle junior Kirsten Ostby racked up 30 assists and senior Dorissa Denure posted three blocks.
"We knew it would be a tough match because Black Hawk is a really good team," Butler said. "It means a lot to have Ashley back and to have a weapon like that in the front row. I thought it was a good team win. I think everyone contributed. We didn't let up."
The Orioles improve to 12-6 overall and 9-0 in the Six Rivers East and are one win away from assuring themselves of at least a share of their third consecutive conference championship.
"It's definitely been a goal and something they have been working towards," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "We have never had a three-peat for Argyle volleyball. We would like to be the first."
Black Hawk sophomore Hannah Butler delivered eight kills and 10 digs. Hannah's sister, Bailey Butler, posted six kills and 10 digs. Senior Hannah Herbst had nine assists and both junior Sydney Delzer and Bailey Butler notched two aces.
