ALBANY - It's no secret to Argyle senior Kim Pink what the Orioles were missing in a two-match losing streak.

Pink said the difference in the Orioles snapping a two-match losing streak and sweeping Albany 25-15, 25-14, 25-18 Thursday night was teamwork.

"I just think we just wanted it more and we played as a team," she said.

Argyle (9-12, 5-4 Six Rivers East) found some coverage holes in the Comets' service receive early on, and they exploited them. Argyle senior Rachel Tollakson had an ace and sophomore Jenna Langmeier powered down a kill to give the Orioles a 22-13 lead. The Comets (8-10, 2-6) couldn't recover, and the Orioles won the first game. Langmeier finished with seven kills and 25 digs.

Albany coach Connie Wunschel wasn't surprised by the slow start considering the hoopla around homecoming week.

"We have beat Argyle twice this year," Wunschel said. "This was very disappointing. I think homecoming sucks. It saps the energy out of them. We found the fire here and there. We just couldn't sustain it."

The Orioles got off to a hot start in the second game. Argyle senior Kayla Ostby, who had 25 assists and three aces, delivered back-to-back aces to help the Orioles jump out to a 7-1 lead. Pink came through with a kill and block late in the game to give the Orioles a 17-8 lead.

"We had one or two parts that just weren't working," Wunschel said. "(Our players) just weren't moving around. We just came out flat. Everyone has to carry their weight. In the first game it wasn't their hits that killed us. It was our coverage."

Argyle coach Shelby Rideout was excited with the way her team played.

"They played phenomenal," Rideout said. "They played their best match they have played all year. It was nice to see some consistency, and they were aggressive. They went out their swinging. They were not afraid to make mistakes. They had that confidence tonight."

The final game was tight throughout. Albany junior Ashlee Berra had two of her three blocks in the third game to help the Comets get out to an 11-9 lead. Argyle junior Jessica Treuthardt had a kill and Langmeier delivered an ace to help the Orioles come back and win the game. The Comets were plagued by nine service errors. Treuthardt finished with seven kills.

Albany senior Cassidy Bump and sophomore Alexis Kennedy each had four kills. Senior Julia Farley notched seven assists and seniors Kirstie Kauk and Carlie Peters each had nine digs.

"Their teamwork was impressive," Rideout said. "Once we have that going, everything clicks."
