PATCH GROVE - Senior Kayla Ostby scored a team-high 18 points as the Argyle girls basketball team dispatched River Ridge in overtime 50-43.
The Orioles scored nine points in the extra frame and limited the Timberwolves to just two.
"They put one in quick, and our defense came together and held them," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "I was really proud of Jenna Langmeier. She held their best player to zero points in the overtime."
Also aiding the Orioles all game long was frequent trips to the foul line. Argyle shot 31 free throws in the game, making 20. Ritschard said that's his team's goal every time out.
"That's been our main focus all year long: get to the free throw as many times as we can," he said.
Monticello 52, Cassville 33
CASSVILLE - The Monticello girls basketball team picked up a 52-33 win in Cassville Thursday night.
Monticello came out firing and led 26-12 at the half. Coach Lori Brokopp liked the intensity her team demonstrated in the first half.
"We did a really good job in the first half. We came out really strong, attacking right away," said Brokopp. "We put some pressure on them which caused some trouble for them, and we scored off some turnovers. We rebounded pretty well and got a lot of second-chance shots."
Junior Marissa Berg led the Ponies with 18 points, and sophomore Alyssah Kubly added 13.
She also praised senior Katie Nelson for being the team's defensive leader.
"Katie Nelson had a very strong game for us," Brokopp said. "She only scored five points, but she came out and played hard and was a spark for us defensively."
The win was Monticello's first of the year. The Ponies travel to Highland on Saturday.
