Orioles continue strong start; Black Hawk sweeps Monticello

Argyle 3, Albany 0

ARGYLE — The Argyle Orioles continued their strong start to the season with a 3-0 sweep over the Albany Comets 25-12, 25-8, 25-12 in Six Rivers Conference volleyball on Sept. 16.

Senior Kylie Butler paced the Orioles with 20 kills, 10 digs, and one block. Sophomore Claire Holmes tacked on six kills and 12 aces. Senior Lexi Wonders added six kills and four assists. Junior Avari Steiner played a big role with 30 assists, five digs, one ace, and one block. 

“They had some good serving runs. We did a good job mixing around the offense and getting everyone involved,” Argyle coach Jen Green said. 

With the win, Argyle improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the Six Rivers East. Albany (2-5, 0-2) plays in the Iowa-Grant Tournament at Livingston on Sept. 20 while Argyle traveled to Pecatonica on Sept. 18.


Black Hawk 3, Monticello 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Black Hawk Warriors swept the Monticello Ponies in three sets to win 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 in Six Rivers Conference volleyball on Sept.16. 

Junior Maddy Place had 13 kills, five blocks, and six aces to lead the Warriors. Junior Jaci Kammes delivered 12 assists and senior Riley Corely added six aces in the win for the Warriors. 

Black Hawk traveled to Juda while Monticello (1-5, 0-3) hosted Barneveld in Six Rivers Conference volleyball on Sept. 18.
