ARGYLE - Argyle senior Nate Thomas couldn't forget the last time the Orioles played Black Hawk.

"It was a miracle shot," Thomas said of Black Hawk sophomore Merik Meythaler's closing-seconds game winner.

But there was no miraculous finish for Black Hawk in the rematch, as the Orioles hung on for a 58-54 win Thursday night.

Thomas and senior Ryan Geissbuhler combined to score 34 points to lead the Orioles (4-10, 2-5 Six Rivers East) to their third straight win.

"I guess we got payback tonight," said Geissbuhler, who scored a game-high 19 points, had six rebounds and hit three 3-pointers. "We have been taking care of the basketball, playing smarter and playing better basketball."

Geissbuhler drilled a 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Orioles a 43-40 lead. The Orioles led by as many as eight points in the second half. Meythaler knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:46 left to cut the Orioles' lead to 49-45. Black Hawk senior Michael Wolff, who scored a team-high 16 points, came up with a steal and scored on a layup to slice the Warriors' lead to 51-48 with 1:54 to go. Geissbuhler scored down low and the Orioles made three free throws in the final 44 seconds to seal it.

"It was nice to get the upset," said Thomas, who had 15 points and six rebounds. "It feels good to be winning again. It's a team effort."

Black Hawk (5-11, 2-6) shot 48 percent from the free-throw line (12 of 26).

"We were not making the free throws," Black Hawk coach Kyle Bille said. "That hurt us tonight. We didn't finish the game. It's a matter of taking advantage of the opportunities when they are given to you."

Both teams got off to slow starts using full court presses against each other. Argyle senior Matt Rosebrook scored four points in the first quarter to lead the Orioles. The Warriors committed six of their 18 turnovers in the first quarter, but ended the period tied at 7.

Black Hawk went on an 8-0 run late in the second quarter, sparked by Meythaler's two 3-pointers and sophomore Cory Rupnow's layup to give the Warriors a 26-17 lead with 2:14 left in the period. Argyle senior Stephan Shambrook hit two free throws to trim the Warriors' lead to 29-25 at halftime.

The Orioles opened the third quarter on an 8-0 spurt, ignited by Geissbuhler's 3-pointer. Argyle junior Jared Johnson hit a clutch 3-pointer to give the Orioles a 33-29 lead with 5:21 left in the third quarter. Geissbuhler scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half.

Wolff drilled a 3-pointer with 2:13 to go in the third quarter that helped the Warriors regain a 38-36 lead. Thomas scored down low at the buzzer at the end of the third quarter to tie the game at 38.

"He (Geissbuhler) is capable of it," Argyle coach Brandon Bakken said. "It's just been a battle for him staying on the court because he gets in foul trouble. He is a great shooter. He just had to have some consistency staying on the court."

Argyle received a lift from freshman Christopher Severson who scored six points, which included a jumper with 2:25 to go in the fourth quarter that gave the Orioles a 51-45 lead.

"He stepped up," Bakken said of Severson. "The kid is just a shooter. He has been doing that on JV."

The Orioles made 17 of 26 free throws including several in the final minute to seal it. Black Hawk senior Christian Krahenbuhl and junior Hayden Schliem fouled out. Meythaler scored 14 points and Rupnow added eight for the Warriors.

"We knew it was going to be a close game and would be four quarters," Bille said. "They made shots and plays when they needed to."
