OREGON - The Cheesemakers' struggles continued as they lost in straight sets to Oregon 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.

Whitney Disch had nine kills and Savannah Koester had five for Monroe.

"Oregon was 100 percent beatable tonight," Monroe coach Danya Ward said. "Their star player Maddy Gits wasn't on tonight but neither were we."

Katie Holmes totaled 11 digs for the Cheesemakers. Sophomore Paige Murphy tallied the most assists for Monroe with 10.

"It's always confidence with us," Ward said of her team's struggles. "We have a lot of talent but sometimes we're worried about where we're supposed to be (on the court) instead of just playing volleyball. When they practice they're a totally different team."

Monticello 3, Pecatonica 0

BLANCHARDVILLE - The winless Vikings played well against one of the toughest teams in their conference but eventually fell to Monticello 25-16, 25-21, 25-20.

Pecatonica's Britt Miller had eight kills and 10 blocks and Brooke Johnson matched the Ponies top performer Jade Green in aces with three but it wasn't enough to capture their first win. Marissa Berg had 11 kills for Monticello and Clare Bruns notched 21 assists.

"We played better than we did on Tuesday but Monticello is a very good team," Pecatonica (0-12, 0-9 Six Rivers East) coach Tori Leonard said. "In the first game we were trying to keep up and struggled with serve-receive. (In the following games) we tried to make adjustments and they made adjustments and just hit to spots where we weren't at."

Argyle 3, Black Hawk 0

ARGYLE - The Orioles dug themselves out of a large hole in the first game and rode that momentum to a straight-sets victory over Black Hawk 25-23, 25-19, 25-15.

Argyle got seven kills from Jessica Treuthart and four aces from Katie Zwicker. Jenna Langmeier had 13 digs for the Orioles.

"We were losing the first game 10-18 and the girls dug down and pulled it out," Argyle coach Shelby Rideout said. "I've never seen them play with that much heart before."

Mikayla Sigafus led Black Hawk with seven kills and Brooke Moore and Nicole Diehl had two aces apiece.

"I don't want to jinx it but I feel the level they (Argyle) played at was a turning point for us," Rideout said. "If we can play like this we can beat anybody."

Brodhead 3, Palmyra Eagle 0

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals crushed Palmyra Eagle in game one on their way to a 25-4, 25-21, 25-13 straight-sets victory.

Serving and hitting were both strong for Brodhead (19-3, 6-2 Rock Valley South). Rachel Heller had 11 kills for the Cardinals and Carly Mohns had eight to go along with 11 aces. Kylie Moe added five aces of her own.

"We came out with a lot of aces in that first game and controlled the ball pretty well on our side," Brodhead coach Erin Kammerer said. "(In the second game) I asked them to try some different things that they need to be able to do in a game situation and that lead to a letdown in game two."

The Panthers Rosalie Jrolf had three kills and seven digs. Brooke Balk led Palmyra Eagle with 13 digs.
