Oregon topples Monroe

OREGON - Shooting woes haunted the Monroe boys basketball team in a 45-38 loss to Oregon on Friday.

The Cheesemakers led by six points at the half, but Monroe scored just 14 points in the second half and the Panthers caught fire.

Oregon (7-7, 2-4 Badger South) went on a 16-2 run to start the second half to build a 34-26 lead. Monroe (7-8, 2-4 Badger South) couldn't find its rhythm in the second half.

Monroe senior Alex Tordoff scored a team-high 15 points and junior Brayden Zettle added 10 points and hit three 3-pointers.

The Cheesemakers had a 10-1 run in the first half to open up a nine-point lead. The surge was sparked by 3-pointers from juniors Zettle and David Keegan. Senior Carter Sawdey also had a layup during the spurt that helped the Cheesemakers take a 14-5 lead.

The Panthers rallied and got within two points, but the Cheesemakers led at the half 24-18.

Oregon rallied to take an eight-point lead in the second half. Zettle hit a 3-pointer with 5 minutes, 40 seconds left to cut the Panthers' lead to 34-31. On the Cheesemakers' next possession, Zettle banked in a jumper to slice the Panthers' lead to 35-33.
