OREGON - The Monroe girls volleyball team was looking to pick up its second conference win before the Badger Conference tournament this weekend.
Monroe senior Sydney Mathiason had seven kills, nine digs and two aces, but Oregon swept the Cheesemakers in the final regular season conference match 25-10, 25-21, 25-20 Thursday.
"I am disappointed how we came out and played tonight," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. "This was a team we could have beaten but instead we beat ourselves. We had glimpses of some good things, but we just played flat. Not sure how you go from a successful weekend of play to this. This roller coaster ride gets pretty exhausting."
Monroe (10-15, 1-6 Badger South) was coming off a second-place finish at the Wisconsin Heights Invitational last weekend.
Monroe senior Alysha Witt had three kills, a team-high eight assists and three aces. Monroe freshman Zoee Pond delivered three kills and sophomore Cassi Gersbach posted two blocks. Senior Alexis Allen notched seven assists and five digs. Senior Meredith Hose also added five digs.
With the loss, the Cheesemakers will be the eighth seed in the conference tournament Saturday at Oregon, and will play top-seeded Watertown.
