MONROE - Oregon pounded out 14 hits against three Monroe pitchers to roll to a 16-4 win over the Cheesemakers on Friday.
Oregon broke the game open with a seven-run second inning. Monroe sophomore Max Lang started and pitched 31⁄3 innings. He gave up nine runs, but just one earned run on eight hits and walked three.
"Max was a little high in the zone and Oregon did a nice job of really hitting the ball well. They hit the ball hard."
Freshman Jared Dillon pitched 22⁄3 innings in relief and gave up four earned runs on six hits. He struck out one and walked four.
Monroe (4-11, 2-6 Badger South) tied the game in the first when senior Isaac Allen reached on an error and senior Hogan Edwards scored. Edwards went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Allen had two RBI.
The Cheesemakers scored two runs in the third. Senior Carter Sawdey singled and senior Jacob Ritschard reached on a fielder's choice. Edwards then singled to left. Allen then delivered a two-run single to left to cut the Panthers' lead to 7-3. The Cheesemakers had six hits as a team.
"We had better at-bats tonight," Huffman said. "We didn't swing out of the zone as much. We put the ball in play more. It's a small step in the right direction. It's just a matter of putting the ball on the outfield grass more."
The Cheesemakers committed five errors.
