MONROE - The Monroe soccer team had another injury to a defender and Oregon rolled to a 5-0 win over the Cheesemakers in a Badger South Conference showdown on Thursday at Honey Creek Park.
Oregon's Makena Fanning and Kristen Marshall each scored two goals to propel the Panthers. Monroe sophomore defender Shannon Rabotski suffered an ankle injury and the Cheesemakers had to play short-handed and moved several players to new positions. Monroe junior Jenna Crook also missed the game due to an ankle injury. With the loss, Monroe drops to 4-5, 0-2 Badger South.
"Oregon is always a very solid team with a lot of depth," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "Unfortunately, when we have an injury as a team, we don't have much depth, we have to move some players to new positions, and it's tough on the team."
Fanning scored both of her goals in the first half to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. The Panthers outshot the Cheesemakers 18-7.
"For the first 15 minutes, we really got pounded," O'Neill said. "They were getting a lot of shots at our goal. We started playing better, and we got strong with a lot of counter attacks."
Monroe senior goalkeeper Shyanna Kelley had 10 saves and junior Gwendolyn Ambrose had five saves.
