OREGON - The Monroe football team lost its third straight game 48-3 to Oregon Friday.
The only score for the Cheesemakers came on Dempzy Foley's 40-yard field goal with 9 minutes to go in the first quarter that gave Monroe a short-lived 3-0 lead. With the loss, Monroe drops to 2-3, 0-3 Badger South.
"They (Oregon) are a very good team," Monroe coach Curt Miller said. "They played a lot faster than we did. They made a lot more plays."
Monroe sophomore quarterback Tyler Elmer completed 5 of 10 passes for 38 yards with one interception. The Panthers limited the Cheesemakers to 113 total rushing yards. Monroe senior Jake Flannery rushed for 29 yards on seven carries.
"Oregon didn't do anything fancy defensively," Miller said. "They just played a lot faster."
Oregon (4-1, 2-1 Badger South) racked up 366 total rushing yards. Oregon's Matt Yates rushed for 140 yards and scored three touchdowns. Teammate B.J. Buckner had 105 rushing yards on 10 carries and scored one touchdown.
Monroe sophomore Jacob Kind had four receptions for 30 yards.
Monroe will host Monona Grove Friday.
"I just want to take it one game at a time," Miller said. "MG will be a very good football team. After Monona Grove, we will have a stretch of competitive Badger South games."
