MONROE - Orangeville capped off an undefeated season in the Monroe Area Fastpitch League with a 5-3 win over Monroe Optimists No. 1 Sunday, Aug. 8.
Orangeville took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and fourth innings. Alyssa Montgomery's run-scoring triple in the top of the sixth pulled Monroe within a run, but Orangeville scored three insurance runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning.
Optimists No. 1 defeated Stockton 11-9 earlier Sunday. Monroe scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take an 11-7 lead. Kaylee Craigo collected three hits and Montgomery smashed a two-run triple for Monroe, which finished second in the division with a 7-3 record.
In other Red League games Sunday, Orfordville defeated Juda 3-2 in eight innings and Brodhead beat Stockton 11-9.
Monroe Optimists No. 2 dropped a 10-6 decision to Pecatonica in a White League game. Jesse Anderson collected two hits and Heather Barta smacked a run scoring triple to lead Monroe's offense. Corey Wells allowed just three earned runs on the hill for Monroe, taking the loss.
