MONROE - The Monroe Optimists No. 1 team pounded out 16 hits en route to an 18-1 win over Belleville Sunday, July 8.
Taylor O'Leksy, Chandra McGuire, Breawn Ambrose, Corey Wells and Heather Barta each had multiple hit games for Monroe. Wells scattered five hits and struck out four to pick up the win. With the win, the Monroe Optimists No. 1 improve to 3-2-1 in the Red League. Argyle (5-1) has a one game lead on Orfordville (4-2) and a 1.5 game lead on Monroe (3-2-1).
In other Red League games, Argyle defeated Orfordville 12-10, Juda beat Monticello 6-5 and Orangeville defeated Belleville 9-3.
In White League action, Chelsea Thompson's two-run single provided all the offense the Monroe Optimists No. 2 needed in a 2-1 win over Pecatonica. Kay Jordan struck out nine in picking up the complete game victory for Monroe. With the win, the Monroe Challengers improved to 4-1 and are tied with Argyle and Warren at the top of the league.
