MONROE - The Monroe Optimists No. 1 finished the summer season with a pair of wins over Argyle in the Monroe Area Fastpitch League.
The wins improved Monroe's record to 9-1 and clinched the Red League championship. In the opener, Ellie Grossen's two-run double in the fifth inning broke a tie at 3 and led Monroe to a 5-4 win. Taylor O'Lesky, Heather Barta and Alyssa Montgomery also drove in runs for Monroe. In the second game, Monroe scored seven runs in the first and went on to win 15-6.
Samantha Solberg picked up the win for Monroe.
In other Red League games, Monticello won a pair of games, defeating Orfordville 5-2 and Orangeville 9-8. Orfordville won its second game of the night defeating Juda 6-5 and Orangeville defeated Brodhead 5-4 to close out the summer season.
In White League action, Monroe Optimists No. 2 broke open a close game with a six-run fourth and went on to beat Pecatonica 11-3. Lauren Hendrickson, Corey Wells and Meghan Miller had run scoring extra base hits to pace the Monroe offense. Wells and Samantha Hose allowed only four hits while striking out nine on the mound for Monroe.
