MONTICELLO - Baseball can be a game of inches and few teams no that better than Argyle.

Monticello (3-9, 3-6 Six Rivers East) loaded the bases in the seventh inning and had a golden scoring opportunity. Argyle sophomore Alec Treuthardt struck out Aaron Hefty. Monticello sophomore Josh Kolasch hit a line drive that Argyle freshman Kyle Olson caught while falling over to preserve the Orioles' 7-6 win Tuesday.

"One more inch and we probably would have taken the lead or at least tied it up," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said.

Treuthardt pitched a complete game and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out 12 and walked four. Argyle (1-8) had just three hits - from Treuthardt, freshman Colton Ploessl and sophomore Rhett Starr.

Monticello sophomore Brent Klitzke went 4-for-4. Junior Bryce Klitzke was 3-for-5 with a double and junior Aaron Hefty was 2-for-3. The Ponies made seven errors.

"It's not often that you get 10 hits and lose," Pinnow said. "We also had 12 strikeouts. We have to be able to put the ball in play."

Monticello sophomore Shane Miller pitched four innings and gave up three earned runs on two hits. Miller struck out three and walked four. Bryce Klitzke pitched one inning and gave up one run. Senior Austin Steffen pitched two innings in relief and struck out two.

"Shane did a pretty good job of pitching," Pinnow said. "He walked a few more than we would have liked. They were aggressive on the basepaths and a walk usually turned into a stolen base. We had some untimely errors that allowed some runs to score."

PECATONICA 4, BLACK HAWK 1

SOUTH WAYNE - Senior Matt Goldthorpe scattered seven hits over five innings and freshman Drew Schleim added two innings of scoreless relief as the Vikings recorded the Six Rivers East win.

Goldthorpe allowed one earned run, struck out three and walked one. Schleim allowed a hit and had four strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Sophomore Tyler Hodgson was 3-for-3 to lead Pecatonica (5-4, 4-3 Six Rivers East) and junior Jake Scoville had an RBI single in the Vikings' two-run first inning.

Black Hawk senior Mike Walker went 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while walking four and striking out three. Junior Cory Rupnow went 2-for-4 and freshman Jordan Monson drove in the run for the Warriors (2-6, 2-5).

Barneveld 13, Albany 5

BARNEVELD - The Comets had won four of five games, but were cooled off at Barneveld.

Senior Cody Schultz went 3-for-3 to lead the Comets and sophomore Ethan Pfeuti was 2-for-4.

Albany senior Ty Mauerman pitched two innings and gave up nine runs (six earned) on five hits. He struck out three and walked four. Sophomore Mitchell Kauk pitched four innings and gave up four earned runs on three hits. He struck out seven and walked six.

CUBA CITY 11, DARLINGTON 3

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds produced 12 hits but left a staggering 15 runners on base in Southwestern Wisconsin Activities League play.

Senior Brandon Hardyman went 3-for-4 with a double while senior John Sturtz, sophomore Aric Geissbuhler, and freshmen Jason Singer and Cole McDonald each had two hits.

"We're definitely improving, but we're leaving too many runners on," Darlington coach Matt Austin said. "We had the bases loaded three times and left them loaded. That's tough to swallow."

JEFFERSON 11, BRODHEAD-JUDA 0

JEFFERSON - Jefferson senior pitcher Zach Peachey blanked the Cardinals (2-3 Rock Valley South) on just one hit as the Eagles rolled in five innings.

Jefferson got three runs in the first, two in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth while collecting 10 hits off Cardinals pitchers Tyler Davis and Derrick Turner.

NEW GLARUS 9, LUTHER PREP 8

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with a non-conference victory.

Senior Evan Hauge (2-for-4) drove in three runs and junior Spencer Jones went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Glarner Knights (4-6, 2-3 Capitol South), who rallied from a 7-0 deficit in the third inning.

The Phoenix batted around in the third inning and scored seven runs, but the Glarner Knights battled back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. New Glarus closed the gap to 7-6 with a pair of runs in the fourth. The Phoenix went ahead 8-6 with a run in the fifth, but New Glarus tied it at 8-8 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
