BRODHEAD - Senior Erin Nyhus was honored recently for her performance this season for the Brodhead girls basketball team being named the Rock Valley Conference's Player of the Year.

Nyhus was also named first-team all-conference. She led the Cardinals to a 10-13 overall record and a sixth-place finish in the 10-team Rock Valley Conference with a mark of 7-11.

Nyhus averaged 20.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. She shot a team-best 73.4 percent from the free-throw line and made a team-high 27 3-pointers.

Jefferson's Nick Mueller was named coach of the year. Jefferson (24-2) made a run to the sectional final where the Eagles lost to Monroe 68-31.

Brodhead senior Brooke Bescup and junior Alexis Oliver received honorable mention all-conference honors.



SWAL

Darlington junior Kaylee Meyers was named the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League Player of the Year after leading Darlington to a sectional for the second straight year.

Meyers was also named first-team all-conference after leading the Redbirds to the SWAL title. Darlington captured the league title by finishing 19-5 overall and 13-1 in the SWAL, one game ahead of Cuba City.

Meyers averaged 17.8 points per game. La Crosse Aquinas, the Division 4 state champion, defeated Darlington 73-36 in a sectional semifinal. The two other first-team all-conference players for the Redbirds are junior Kathleen Mathias and senior Kennedy Rankin. Mathias (12.1 ppg) and Rankin (9.4 ppg) were also key cogs in the Redbirds' run to the SWAL title. Darlington coach Kelly Rose was named the league's coach of the year.
