No-no's dominate highlights

JUDA - Juda sophomore Amber Ramos tossed a no-hitter and the Panthers beat Pecatonica 2-0 in a pitcher's duel Thursday.

"She (Ramos) pitched a great game," Juda coach Bill Davis said. "She got ahead in the count. That's a big difference when you have them chasing your pitches."

Ramos struck out 14. She walked three and hit one.

The Panthers (3-3, 1-0 Six Rivers East) broke a scoreless game when sophomore C.J. Dunwiddie walked and then stole second and third. Juda junior Lauren Dunwiddie then laid down a squeeze bunt and C.J. Dunwiddie scored from third to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Theiler and junior Aly Pierce were both 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers at the plate.

Pecatonica senior Kaci Cassidy gave up just two runs on six hits in going the distance for the Vikings. She struck out three and walked one.

Iowa-Grant 27, Darlington 1

MONTFORT - The Iowa-Grant Panthers struck for 17 of their 27 runs in the second inning to crush the Redbirds in SWAL conference action Thursday.

The Panthers got 11 hits and seven walks to go along with nine Darlington errors.

Senior Katie Wiederholt went 2-for-3 and junior Amber Peters stroked a double to account for all three of Darington's hits in the game.

Darlington (0-5, 0-3 SWAL) will host Monticello in a non-conference game today.

Marshall 8,

New Glarus 0

MARSHALL - Marshall senior Megan Peterson fired a no-hitter in leading the Cardinals to a win over the Glarus Knights Thursday in Capitol South Conference action.

Peterson struck out 12 and did not issue a walk. Only two batters reached base for New Glarus thanks to a pair of Marshall errors which prevented Peterson from throwing a perfect game.

New Glarus (0-3, 0-2 Capitol South) will host Potosi in a non-conference game today.

Barneveld 2, Argyle 0

BARNEVELD - Tory Schave and Tayler Bowser combined to pitch a no-hitter for the Eagles as Barneveld downed the Argyle Orioles in a Six Rivers East conference girls softball game Thursday.

Schave pitched 4 1/3 innings without allowing a hit, but gave way to Bowser in the fifth inning with the scored tied 0-0. Bowser pitched 2 2/3 innings and kept the Orioles hitless while the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get the win in relief.

Despite being no-hit, the Orioles got baserunners via seven walks issued by Schave and Bowser, but were unable to drive them in.
