NEW GLARUS - The Sugar River girls soccer team posted its third straight shutout rolling to a 5-0 win over Poynette-Portage Monday.
Sugar River, ranked No. 8 in the Division 3 Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association state poll, rolls into a nonconference match against Monroe today with some momentum. The Raiders (3-0) have outscored its first three opponents this season 8-0.
Sugar River junior Morgan Hustad scored the first goal on an assist by Samantha Trainor at 13 minutes, 27 seconds. Sophomore Ellie Gentilli then scored a goal on a pass from Karstyn Rossing at 38:02 to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. Junior teammate Julia McNamer scored a goal on Rossing's second assist to make it 3-0 at the half.
In the second half, senior Kalin O'Rourke scored on a penalty kick at 56:39 and senior Aimee Sies scored the final goal in the 75th minute.
The Raiders outshot Poynette-Portage 23-6. Sugar River junior goalkeeper Rachael Heittola had six saves.
