No. 2-ranked Redbirds topple No. 7 Vikings

DARLINGTON - Senior running back Trevor Johnson rushed for 134 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns to power Darlington to a 42-6 win over Pecatonica-Argyle in a WIAA Division 6 state quarterfinal Friday.

With the win, Darlington (12-0), ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press small school state poll, advances and will play No. 1-ranked Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs in a state semifinal game next week.

Johnson had a 70-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter to put the Redbirds on the board. Darlington's Tyler Mosley then broke loose on a 68-yard TD run to give the Redbirds a 12-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Darlington senior quarterback Jared Meister connected with Ryan Glendenning on a 23-yard TD pass early in the second quarter. Johnson ran in the two-point conversion to give the Redbirds a 20-0 lead. Meister then tossed a 49-yard TD pass to Johnson to give the Redbirds a 27-0 lead at the half.

Meister completed 6 of 9 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson had a 22-yard TD run in the third quarter and senior Hunter Johnson also had a 42-yard TD run in the third for the Redbirds.

Pecatonica-Argyle senior running back Collin Argue had a 4-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter.

The Redbirds limited the Vikings to 199 total yards. Pecatonica-Argyle senior Cam Treuthardt rushed for 40 yards on 10 carries. Argue had 35 rushing yards on 11 carries and scored one touchdown. Senior quarterback Logan Green completed 6 of 18 passes for 86 yards with two interceptions for the Vikings.
