WHITEWATER - The Brodhead girls basketball team so far this season hasn't seen many instances where they've entered halftime trailing their opponent. However, this was the case in Whitewater, as the Cardinals found themselves down by four points heading into intermission.

It took an extra period to decide the victor in Thursday night's game, where the Cardinals prevailed 62-59 to improve to 14-0 on the season.

Both teams were evenly matched at the start, as Brodhead held a three-point advantage after the first quarter. But the Cardinals were only able to muster four points in the second quarter, and entered halftime trailing 26-22.

The Cardinals climbed back in the second half by forcing Whitewater to committ fouls and send them to the free thow line. In the end, Brodhead was able to convert on 15 attempts, led by senior Carly Mohns, who connected on 8-of-10 from the charity stripe en route to a team-high 24 points.

Brodhead (14-0, 9-0) will once again put their streak on the line as they face Clinton on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Monticello 57, Pecatonica 27

PECATONICA - Three players scored in double figures for the Monticello girls basketball team on Thursday night on the way to a 57-27 victory over host Pecatonica.

"They (Monticello) were solid in a lot of areas," said Vikings coach Scott Carlson. "Defensively, we had a tough time guarding them man-to-man. We switched to a zone defense late in the first half, but they had some players who were able to just open some things up for them tonight."

This was the case for Monticello teammates Marissa Berg, Samantha DeVoe and Alyssah Kubly, who all scored in double figures for the Ponies.

"They are excellent mid-range shooters," Carlson said. "They (Monticello) would work the ball into the middle and connect from mid-range, which in turn, opened things up for them down low."

With the win, Monticello improves to 9-5 on the season and will host Albany on Thursday, Feb. 6.

Still in search of their first win, Pecatonica hopes to pick up a victory Monday, Feb. 3 when they host non-conference opponent Belleville.

Barneveld 78, Juda 17

BARNEVELD - The Juda girls basketball team had the tough task of trying to knock off the top-ranked Barneveld Golden Eagles on their home court Thursday night. Unfortunately for the lady Panthers, they were outmatched in a 78-17 drubbing.

The Panthers struggled on both ends of the ball, as Barneveld had three players reach double figures while limiting Juda to only two points in the second half.

Juda (4-11, 1-5) hosts Argyle on Thursday, Feb. 6.
