EDGERTON - Top-seeded Edgerton rolled to a sweep of Monroe in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal match Tuesday.
Edgerton topped the Cheesemakers 25-10, 25-8, 25-20 to advance to Thursday's regional semifinals where they will play fourth-seeded Evansville.
Monroe sophomore Chloe Schroeder and senior Kari Jordan each had a team-high four kills, while fellow sophomore Hannah Neuenschwander had seven assists. Monroe junior Haley Doherty had three digs and senior Lauren Curtis had one ace.
"We came out very slow in the first two games," Monroe coach Heidi Witt said. "We just had too many errors and serve receive errors. We just couldn't come back from that. At the end of the first game we started to block their hitter, but it was too late. In the second game we made mental errors. We couldn't pass the ball up to our setters and we couldn't put the ball away."
The Cheesemakers led most of the final set. The Crimson Tide and Cheesemakers were tied at 20 late in the final set. The Tide scored five straight points that included a ball handling error, hitting error and a dig the Cheesemakers couldn't come up with.
"If we would have played the first two games like we did the last it would have been less disappointing for the girls," Witt said.
Edgerton was led by Ashlyn Oren who had a match-high 14 kills.
With the loss, Monroe finished the season 8-28.
"I told them with the way we played the last game they need to keep their chins up," Witt said. "We are proud of what they have accomplished. We will only get better. They know they have to get in the weight room and train to become a more competitive team."
