NG-M girls run to 13th

VERONA - The New Glarus-Monticello girls cross country team finished 13th at the Verona Invitational Saturday.

New Glarus-Monticello senior Bri Roska finished 40th overall out of 149 runners from 22 teams with a time of 21 minutes, 37.49 seconds in the first 5,000-meter race of the season for the girls. Junior teammate Ashley Risley took 75th (22:44.9) and senior Sam Barr was 85th (22:58.29). New Glarus-Monticello senior Lilly Blum took 95th (23:24.99) and sophomore teammate Kelly Fredrickson was 97th (23:29.89).

Madison Edgewood's Amy Davis was just as impressive winning her first 5K race in 18:24, which was 50 seconds ahead of any other runner at the race. Middleton clipped Madison West for the team title 67-68.

The New Glarus-Monticello boys finished 17th as a team. New Glarus-Monticello sophomore Kyle Fredrickson took 44th overall with a time of 17:44. Junior Max Cruse finished 99th (19:01) and senior Dylan Beckwith took 108th (19:17) at the 21-team meet that featured about 150 runners. The Glarner Knights took fifth out of the seven Division 3 teams at the invite.

New Glarus-Monticello sophomore Christian Arnett took 110th (19:19.9) and senior teammate David Ruegsegger took 131st (20:35.29) to round out the top five for the Glarner Knights.

Madison West's Olin Hacker won the 5,000-meter race (15:21) and Verona's Ryan Nameth was second (15:33).
