MONROE - Both the New Glarus boys basketball team and the Black Hawk girls basketball team remained ranked No. 1 in their respective Associated Press state polls that were released Monday.

New Glarus (17-0) received seven votes from the state's sports writers as the top-ranked team in the Division 4 AP boys basketball state poll. The Glarner Knights edged Destiny for the top spot by three points in the voting. Destiny (13-2), which was tied with New Glarus at No. 1 last week, dropped down to No. 2 this week. Destiny is the defending Division 4 state champion after beating Darlington in the state championship game last year 76-55.

Other regional teams receiving votes in the Division 4 state poll include Mineral Point, Cuba City and Wisconsin Heights.

In Division 2 in the girls poll, Beaver Dam remained ranked No. 1 with nine first-place votes and Milwaukee Vincent, ranked No. 2, received two first-place votes. Monroe (17-2) remained ranked fourth behind Seymour. The only loss in the state of Wisconsin for the Cheesemakers was to Beaver Dam, the defending Division 2 state champion. New Berlin Eisenhower, which Monroe beat earlier this season, is ranked fifth. Two other Badger Conference teams that received votes were Stoughton in Division 2 and Edgewood in Division 3. Monroe has beaten Stoughton twice this season, and is 1-0 against Edgewood with a final game set for Saturday.

Black Hawk (19-0) remained the No. 1-ranked team in Division 5. The Warriors will play Platteville, which is ranked No. 7 in the new poll in Division 4, in a nonconference game in South Wayne. Fall River (17-1), which beat the Warriors 67-62 in overtime in a regional final last year, is ranked third. Six Rivers West teams Shullsburg and Potosi are both receiving votes. Black Hawk beat Shullsburg earlier this season 57-29, and has beaten Potosi twice - the first game Dec. 11 by 26 points, and the second time Jan. 26 by 23.
