New year opens with two wins

MONROE - The Monroe Youth Hockey Squirts team - players are ages 9 and 10 - opened the new year with two home wins in league play.

On Saturday, the Avalanche skated to a 6-0 win over the Stoughton Vikings.

Jacob Ritschard registered a hat trick, scoring four goals in the game, as well as an assist.

Trenten Prien and Cammi Ganshert also scored for Monroe. Prien had three assists, earning the team title of "playmaker."

Rounding out the Monroe scoring was Joe Wyss with two assists and Connor Nafzger with one assist. Kobe Manor had 36 saves in goal.

The Squirts kept the momentum going Sunday with a 3-2 win over Wisconsin Dells.

Tyler Johnson scored two Monroe's goals and Trenten Prien had the other. Jamaar Manor, Joe Wyss and Cammi Ganshert each had assists. Goalie Jacob Ritschard had 27 saves in the net.

The Squirts next travel to Chippewa Falls for a tournament, Jan. 8-10.
