NEW GLARUS - Junior guard Gavin Binger hit a game-winning floater in the lane to beat the buzzer to give New Glarus a thrilling 41-39 win over Waterloo Friday.
The Glarner Knights were locked in a tie game with about 1 minute left. New Glarus ran the clock down to about 20 seconds left and called a timeout. Binger drove to the paint and hit an 8-foot floater at the buzzer. Binger scored a team-high nine points.
"It was a good hard-fought defensive battle," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "Both teams struggled putting the ball in the basket at times, but it was good defense by both teams.
"We had lost a couple in a row, and winning helps you. We got a lot of contributions from a lot of different guys and now we have some momentum going into Belleville next week."
New Glarus (8-11, 4-4 Capitol South) will play at Belleville Thursday.
