New Glarus nipped at the buzzer

NEW GLARUS - Watertown Luther Prep's Jeff Rick scored on a putback to beat the buzzer, and the Phoenix, in stunning fashion. They beat New Glarus 55-53 Tuesday night.

Luther Prep had 18 offensive rebounds in the game.

"We did some good things," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "There are also some things we need to work on. You can't give up 18 offensive rebounds."

New Glarus senior Kribe French scored 16 points to lead the Glarner Knights. Junior Tyler Kreklow added 14.

New Glarus (5-4, 2-1 Capitol South) led 30-16 at halftime, but the Knights couldn't hang on to the 14-point lead. Luther Prep outscored the Knights 39-23 in the second half.

"The defense got a little soft," Sysko said. "Luther Prep did a better job of taking care of the basketball."

Darlington 75, Dodgeville 58

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds received a big contribution off the bench from junior Kent Miehe and rolled to the big win.

Darlington (9-1, 5-0 SWAL) trailed 17-15 after the first quarter. Miehe scored 11 of his 13 points off the bench in the second quarter to carry the Redbirds to a 39-28 halftime lead.

"We needed a spark and he (Miehe) provided it," Darlington coach Mike Hopkins said.

Darlington senior Alex Erickson scored a game-high 31 points and senior Bryan Reichling added 12.

Albany 52, Pecatonica 45

BLANCHARDVILLE - A 17-3 edge in the third quarter sparked the Albany Comets to a 52-45 win over the Pecatonica Vikings Tuesday night.

The score was tied at 17-17 at halftime before the Comets used a second-half surge to take a 34-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Senior Josh Krueger led the Comets with 16 points while freshman Isaiah Shell delivered 11 points. Junior Tanner Kleppe scored 11 points and senior Tannar Johnson scored 10 points to lead the Vikings.

Albany (3-8, 2-2 Six Rivers East) hosts Monticello while Pecatonica (1-9, 0-4 Six Rivers East) travels to Black Hawk Friday.

Barneveld 66, Juda 41

JUDA - The seventh-ranked Barneveld Eagles stayed undefeated in the Six Rivers East with a 66-41 win over the Juda Panthers Tuesday.

The Eagles wasted no time in getting a double-digit lead by outscoring the Panthers 20-7 in the first quarter and built up a 33-16 halftime lead.

The Panthers got 18 points from junior Brandon Bauman and senior Dylan Bauman added 11 points.

Juda (6-5, 3-2 Six Rivers East) will travel to Argyle Friday.

Monticello 56, Argyle 31

MONTICELLO - The Argyle Orioles were hoping to start a winning streak. Instead, the Monticello Ponies extended their winning streak to four, and kept pace with Barneveld atop the Six Rivers East. The Ponies held the Orioles to just 12 second half points on their way to a win over Argyle Tuesday.

The Orioles got their first win of the season last week over Madison Abundant Life Christian, but couldn't overcome Monticello's 16-6 start in the first quarter.

Monticello (7-3, 4-0 Six Rivers East) travels to Albany while Argyle (1-7, 0-5 Six Rivers East) hosts Juda Friday.
