New Glarus-Monticello sweeps Capitol-South for conference title

LAKE MILLS - The New Glarus-Monticello boys cross country team placed five of the top nine runners en route to winning its third Southern Capitol Conference championship in the last four years, Tuesday at Lakeside Lutheran.

New Glarus-Monticello senior Travis Beutler won the conference title by running the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 38 seconds. Freshman Ryan McCoy finished second (17:43). Senior Carl Pratt took fourth (18:43) and Tyler Meier was eighth (19:14).

New Glarus-Monticello won the title in a landslide by outdistancing Marshall, 24-67.

The Glarner Knights girls cross country team finished second after Marshall edged them, 42-47 for the championship.

LouAnn Judd finished third with a time of 17:48. Madeline Brunner took fifth (17:56) and Brenna Sargent was ninth (19:08).

Jessie Pratt finished 13th (19:22) and Jessica O'Brien was 17th (19:32).
