NEW GLARUS - Senior Gavin Binger scored a game-high 22 points and knocked down four 3-pointers to lift New Glarus High School boys basketball team to a 65-64 win over Cambridge on Thursday.
The Glarner Knights made 11 3-pointers, including the first six they attempted in the game.
New Glarus freshman Zach Feller drilled a 3-pointer with about 1 minute to go to give the Knights a 65-62 lead. Cambridge's J.T. Parish missed a 3-pointer at the end.
New Glarus senior Trey Taylor added 13 points and made three 3-pointers, and Feller had 12 points and hit two 3-pointers.
Binger hit a halfcourt 3-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded to give the Knights a 36-35 lead.
Cambridge's Matt Kaatz scored a team-high 12 points, and Brenden Jarlsberg added 11 points.
Black Hawk 69, Highland 36
SOUTH WAYNE - Defense was a key factor in the Warriors' dominating victory over the Cardinals.
Chase Stietz, who held team high-scoring honors with Josh Meier with 15 points, drew the assignment to guard Highland's prolific Jon Ross Linscheid.
"Linscheid usually scores 26 or 27 points," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "Chase did a really good job playing defense on the other team's best player, as well as playing good offense."
Linscheid finished with 20 points.
Black Hawk had a 27-15 lead by halftime and then scored 42 points in the second half.
Jett Rufenacht added 10 points for Black Hawk, and C.J. Leuzinger and Conner Meyer had eight apiece.
Black Hawk senior point guard Jacob Quinn had a career-high nine assists.
"In the second half, he contributed a lot by breaking their press with his ballhandling," Anderson said.
