NEW GLARUS - Senior guard Vanessa Narveson scored a game-high 17 points to help the New Glarus High School girls basketball team cruise to a 64-18 win over Waterloo Friday night.

Sophomore Willow Lee added 15 points to help New Glarus improve to 9-2, 2-0 Capitol South.

The Glarner Knights switched to a full-court press late in the first half and built a 17-point lead at the half. The Knights outscored the Pirates 32-3 in the second half.

The Knights shot 95.4 percent from the free-throw line (21 of 22).

"I thought we played better team defense in the second half," New Glarus coach Kim Burton said. "We were not as flat-footed as we were in the first half. We did a much better job of anticipating."

Junior Sarah Rotar, junior McKinley Righter and sophomore Julia Barnaby each chipped in six points for the Knights.

Burton is excited about the 2-0 start in the conference, but not satisfied.

"We are very happy, but we have a lot of games left in conference," Burton said. "We will not get too carried away."
