VERONA - Second-seeded Mount Horeb avenged an earlier season loss to top-seed Sugar River on Thursday, shutting down the Raiders 2-0 in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal at Reddan Park.
Sugar River, the Capitol Conference co-champions with Lakeside Lutheran, finished the season 17-4-1. The Raiders defeated Monroe 3-2 in a regional championship game on Saturday.
Sugar River was the No. 1 seed, but the game was played in Reddan Park since the Raiders' home field at Belleville High School doubles as a football field.
With the win, Mount Horeb advances to play McFarland in a sectional championship game at Reddan Park on Saturday.
The Raiders knocked off the Vikings 2-1 in a game Oct. 8. Mount Horeb turned the tables Thursday.
Sugar River was led this season by senior Dylan Hustad who scored a team-high 30 goals and senior Nehemiah Noriega who scored 17 goals. The Raiders finished the season averaging 3.91 goals per game.
In the first meeting against Mount Horeb, Hustad and Noriega each scored goals as the Raiders defeated the Vikings on the road.
