MONTICELLO - Bryce Klitzke and Jesse Halvorsen hit two quick layups to start the fourth quarter and the defense did the rest for the Monticello boys basketball team Tuesday in a 49-33 victory against Black Hawk.

The Ponies outscored Black Hawk 15-2 in the fourth quarter of the Six Rivers East Conference contest.

"It was a good way to finish the game," Monticello coach Mark Olson said.

The Ponies (6-5, 3-1 Six Rivers East) took a precarious 34-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

"Bryce and Jesse both hit layups and right away we stretched it to seven," Olson said of Monticello's fourth-quarter lead.

"It just seemed that changed the mentality of a tight game. The little bit of breathing space there might have given us a little confidence to finish the game and might've changed the way (Black Hawk) played defense."

Monticello helped itself by hitting 17 of 24 from the free throw line to Black Hawk's 3 of 4.

Senior Lukas Kolasch scored 14 points and sophomore Lucas Marty added 13 for the Ponies, who took the lead just before the half and never relinquished it.

Marty was 4-for-4 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Cory Rupnow scored 13 points for Black Hawk (2-5, 0-3), including the Warriors' only basket of the fourth quarter with 6 minutes, 33 seconds remaining.

PECATONICA 51, FENNIMORE 49

PECATONICA - Pecatonica coach Kevin Parman called a timeout with his team trailing 10-0 and made a simple inquiry of the Vikings.

"I asked if anybody was ready to play," Parman said, "and we played very hard after that."

Pecatonica trailed 45-40 with three minutes left in the non-conference game, but junior Wyatt Massey hit two free throws to tie the game at 49, and senior J.J. Hogan nailed two free throws with 8.3 seconds left to give the Vikings (3-8) the victory.

"We finally finished one. We missed four (free throws in a row) before a senior stepped up and hit them," Parman said of Hogan.

Senior Tanner Kleppe scored 19 points and Massey added 12 for Pecatonica, which closed the game on a 16-10 run. Parman said junior Jon Hendrickson grabbed the rebound that clinched the victory.

Aaron Swan scored 16 points to pace Fennimore.

Juda 54, Albany 39

JUDA - The Juda Panthers handed the Albany Comets their first Six Rivers East loss and collected their fourth win in five games.

Junior Cody Suiter scored 15 points, junior Kade Allen added 12, and senior Brandon Bauman had 10 for the Panthers (6-3, 2-2 Six Rivers East).

Most of the scoring occurred in the third quarter when Juda outscored the Comets, 20-17, but the Panthers' defense came up big in the other three quarters, holding Albany to just 22 points.

"I think we played pretty good team defense. We could've rebounded better, but we made better decisions on offense than we've had. That's the game in a nutshell," Juda coach Mike Armitage said.

Sophomore Isaiah Shell paced the Comets (5-4, 3-1) with 11 points and senior Gavin Ruef scored 10.

Barneveld 50,Argyle 28
