Monticello hangs on against Pec; Juda trumps Albany

MONTICELLO - The Ponies finished their conference championship season with a five set win over the Pecatonica Vikings, 25-12, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 15-8, Thursday in Six Rivers East action.

Senior Desiree Marty collected 11 kills and six digs for Monticello while senior C.J. Dilley racked up 31 assists. Senior Katie Gierhart also had six digs and senior Victoria Wischer scored five aces and added three blocks for the Ponies.

Pecatonica was led by Madelyn Fischer with nine kills and four blocks. Junior Michelle Francois dished out 21 assists, senior Allison Swenson came up with 10 digs and senior Michaela Boese dropped in four aces to pace the Vikings.

Monticello (12-3, 11-1 Six Rivers East) received a No. 2 seed and will host Juda (No. 7 seed) while Pecatonica landed a No. 6 seed and will travel to defending Division 4 state champion Highland (No. 3 seed) Tuesday to open the WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinals.

Juda 3, Albany 2

ALBANY - In a back-and-forth match in the Six Rivers East, Juda outlasted Albany, 19-25, 25-23, 25-10, 24-26, 15-6 Thursday as senior Morgan Kamholz delivered 28 assists and three aces to lead the Panthers.

Juda also got 11 kills from senior Courtney Moisan and 10 kills from senior C.J. Dunwiddie. Senior outside hitter Katlyn DeVoe gave the Panthers a spark with 20 digs, as did Dunwiddie, who had 19 digs.

Albany got an all-around performance from junior Kirstie Kauk who had nine kills, 15 digs, two aces, and a block. Junior Carlie Peters also had 15 digs and junior Cassidy Bump contributed 11 assists and a block for the Comets.

Juda (4-8 Six Rivers East) will be a No. 7 seed and will travel to No. 2 seed Monticello and Albany (3-9 Six Rivers East) is a No. 6 seed and will travel to No. 3 seed Williams Bay Faith Christian Tuesday for the Division 4 regional quarterfinals.

Belleville 3, New Glarus 1

BELLEVILLE - The Glarner Knights finished their 2011 regular season with a 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-15 loss to the Belleville Wildcats in a Capitol South conference match Thursday. Senior Jenna Romich gave New Glarus a lift with seven kills and seven blocks. Senior Alaina Legler added 17 assists and Ciara Watrud had nine digs to lead the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (3-16, 2-8 Capitol South) is a No. 7 seed entering the Division 3 tournament that begins Tuesday. They will travel to No. 2 seed Fennimore to begin the regional quarterfinals.
