NEW GLARUS - The Monticello girls basketball team used a balanced attack to roll to a 55-37 non-conference win over New Glarus Saturday.

Monticello senior Samantha DeVoe scored a game-high 19 points and senior teammate Courtney Leuzinger scored 12 points. Fellow senior teammate Alyssah Kubly added 10 points for Monticello, which improved to 2-0.

"They came ready to go," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said of the Ponies. "We didn't have a lot of energy."

The Ponies jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and that lead grew to 13-points at the half. The Ponies switched to a 2-3 zone and the Glarner Knights (1-2) struggled shooting.

"We had open looks," Scheele said. "We just couldn't knock them down. We got in a hole and then it's hard to come back. We are still young. It's a good learning experience for us."
