MONTICELLO - Albany sophomore Isaiah Shell shot the Comets back into the game, but Monticello was able to pull out a thrilling 63-57 overtime win over the Comets Friday night.
Albany (8-14, 5-7 Six Rivers East) trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half. Shell scored a game-high 25 points and made several big plays down the stretch to send the game to overtime. Shell hit a 3-pointer with 11.7 seconds to go to tie the game at 53 to send it to send it to the extra session.
Monticello senior Lukas Kolasch scored four of his team-high 23 points at the start of overtime to give the Ponies a 57-52 lead.
Monticello made four free throws late to seal it. With the win, Monticello (14-8, 10-2) finished second in the conference behind Barneveld. Monticello senior Austin Steffen added 12 points.
Albany senior Gavin Ruef, junior Tyler Van Dusen and senior Ty Mauerman each scored eight points.
Juda 64, Argyle 30
JUDA - Senior Brandon Bauman scored 22 points and Juda boys basketball team enjoyed a solid tune-up for postseason play in a 64-30 victory against Argyle on Friday night.
Senior Joey Jordan and junior Matt Trotter added 12 points apiece for the Panthers (14-6, 7-5 Six Rivers East), who led 41-16 at halftime.
"We played some good team defense right off the bat and made some good decisions in transition and in our half-court offense," Juda coach Mike Armitage said.
Sophomore Alec Treuthardt scored 10 points to lead Argyle (3-19, 0-12).
Black Hawk 44, Pecatonica 37
BLANCHARDVILLE - Junior Merik Meythaler hit four straight free throws in the final 30 seconds and the Warriors connected on 6 of 7 from the foul line in the last 53 seconds to ice the victory.
Meythaler scored nine points to pace Black Hawk (11-11, 7-5 Six Rivers East).
Senior Karson Feller scored 11 points for Pecatonica (4-18, 2-10), which trailed 33-27 entering the fourth quarter.
New Glarus 55, Poynette 49
NEW GLARUS - Sophomore Trae VandeBerg connected for seven 3-pointers en route to scoring a varsity-high 30 points and the host Glarner Knights rallied from a six-point deficit entering the fourth quarter in the Capitol Conference crossover contest.
VandeBerg scored 14 points in the second quarter and 13 in the fourth, when New Glarus (12-10) outscored Poynette 24-12.
"He was just on," Knights coach Travis Sysko said. "It was a great night for Trae, and the boys did a good job finding him when he was open."
Senior Tyler Kreklow added 10 points for the winners. Ethan Lurquin scored 17 points for Poynette (11-10).
