BARNEVELD - Technically it was a one-hitter for the Monticello baseball team, but the Ponies issued 15 walks and ultimately fell to Barneveld 11-1 Wednesday, May 1.

"We played them last night and tonight, and their approach seems to be (patience)," said Monticello coach Scott White, of Barneveld.

Logan Crooks started on the mound for Monticello, pitching 1 1/3 innings. He allowed Barneveld's only hit and gave up eight runs, while walking seven batters.

Brycen Sorenson started on the mound for Barneveld, pitching 4 innings. He allowed Monticello's only hit, while striking out four and walking two.

"We squared him up pretty good a couple times," White said. "He just had good control ... didn't walk many."

The same could not be said for the Ponies, who walked 15 batters as a team. White said the jam-packed schedule had a bit to do with Monticello's lack of control.

"This is our fourth game in three days, so we're kind of short on arms," White said, adding that he had to send a lot of young guys to the mound. "When you have guys who don't have a lot of experience, they can get a little wild up there."

Monticello will now get a day off, before traveling to take on River Ridge on Friday. White said the team is looking forward to the much-needed time for practice and rest.

"Hopefully we'll get to work on our swings and come back Friday and hopefully hit the ball," he said.
