Monroe's boys team dominates dual with Brodhead-Juda

BRODHEAD - On the heels of winning the inaugural Badger Challenge meet, the Monroe boys track team picked up right where they left off.

The Cheesemakers won 13 of the 17 events and defeated Brodhead-Juda 106-31 in a dual meet Thursday.

Monroe junior Michael Barrett matched a lifetime best clearing 6 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump. Barrett also teamed with Alex Bartlett, Jeffrey Hill and Mason Goff to win the 400 relay with a time of 46.8 seconds. Bartlett and Hill tied to take first in the 200 (:23.9). Hill, who is being recruited as a pole vaulter by Division I colleges, showed his versatility by taking first in the long jump (19-4 3/4.).

Monroe sophomore Joel Henry took first in the 1,600 (5:03) and Luke Peterson won the 3,200 (10:49.5). Monroe's Skyler Stingley won the 400 (:54.6) and he helped the 1,600 relay team take first.

Brodhead-Juda junior Corey Steiner finished first in the 100 (:11.5) and sophomore Trent Jordan won the 800 with a time of 2:17.9. Monroe junior Caleb Ahrens won the 100 hurdles (:15.8) and Brodhead-Juda's Caleb Frost finished first in the 300 hurdles (:45.4). Ahrens also ran on the Cheesemakers' winning 800 relay team, which finished in 1:37.7. Monroe's Steve Christiansen led the Cheesemakers to a first place finish in the 3,200 relay (9:21.8).

The Cheesemakers swept both of the weight events. Junior Nick Walker won the shot put (47-10) and Michael Reed took the top spot in the discus (143-2).
