Monroe-Wiota HTL game suspended

MONROE - The anticipated match-up between Monroe and Wiota in the Western Section Home Talent League playoffs was suspended Sunday after a thunderstorm pelted southern Wisconsin.

With Wiota leading 3-0 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning, the game was delayed by lightning. Moments later, the rain began to fall. The game was delayed 30 minutes before it was suspended. Monroe will finish the game where it left off at Wiota at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday.

The Indians jumped on the Brewers with a two-run first inning off Brewers starting pitcher Justin Hahn. Brad Schliem and Aaron Lancaster singled. Merrill Brunson then smoked an RBI double to right to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. Tommy Meier then hit a chopper to Brewers third baseman Matt Busjahn. He threw home, but Lancaster scored after beating the high throw to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Wiota starting pitcher Brock Bidlingmaier had a two-hit shutout going through three innings. Bidlingmaier singled to lead off the second. Kory Tuescher singled and Schliem followed with an RBI single to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
