Monroe wins boys, girls titles at Wisconsin Heights Invite

MAZOMANIE - Both the Monroe boys and girls track teams ran away with the Wisconsin Heights Invitational titles Friday.

The Monroe boys captured the title 156-104 over Lodi, with Pecatonica-Argyle finishing sixth (54). The Monroe girls track team rolled to the title 216-93 over Wisconsin Heights. Pecatonica-Argyle also finished sixth (42).

The Cheesemakers dominated the distance events. Monroe swept the top three spots in the 1,600. Monroe freshman Ethan Moehn won the 1,600 with a time of 4 minutes, 38.61 seconds. Junior Joel Henry finished second (4:43.04) and sophomore Steve Christiansen was third (4:43.71).

Senior Dylan Starck won the 3,200 with a time of 9:54.14.

Monroe junior Sykler Stingley took second in the 200 (:23.52), which was 2 hundredths of a second away from champion Ryan Kaslow of Wisconsin Heights. Pecatonica-Argyle senior Lucas Stoehr finished second in the 400 (:51.83) and third in the 200 (:23.76).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Wyatt Massey finished second in the 800 (2:05.47) just ahead of Monroe sophomore Alex Barenklau (2:07.64) and junior Luke Peterson (2:12.84).

Stingley teamed with Barnklau, Jake Hirsbrunner and Matt Bush to win the 800 relay, with a time of 1:36.43. Senior Caleb Ahrens won the 110 hurdles (:15.89). Senior Michael Barrett finished first in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and Hirsbrunner took third (6-0). Fellow senior Cameron Wahl won the pole vault (12-6) and senior Jeffrey Hill was third (12-0). Senior Nick Walker finished first in the discus (147-5) and senior Michael Kohn was second in the shot put (46-6).

Pecatonica-Argyle senior Charlie Rubio took second in the long jump (18-8 3/4). The Vikings also had success in the distance relays. The Vikings' 1,600 relay team of Marcus Rubio, Nathan Loyd, Massey and Stoehr finished second with a time of 3:40.11. Marcus Rubio and Massey teamed with Chris James and Cameron Colson to take second in the 3,200 relay (8:47.72) well ahead of the Cheesemakers (9:00.39).

Monroe senior Ethan Schuttler took third in the 100 (:12.02).

The Monroe girls dominated the sprint events. Senior Jaclyn Ditter finished first in the 100 (:13.12) and junior Maria Eberle was second (:13.55). Monroe freshman Lauren Werth won the 200 (:27.27) just ahead of senior Brenna Bazley (:27.93). Bazley took second in the 200 and the long jump (14-9 1/2).

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team including Eberle, Werth, Bazley and Ditter finished first with a time of 51.62 seconds, which was more than five seconds ahead of Pecatonica-Argyle. Ditter teamed with seniors Alexa Yurs, Rachel Rogerson and Cheyenne Foster to win the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:22.13. The Cheesemakers added second place finishes in the 800 (1:56.22) and 3,200 (11:04.40) relays.

The Cheesemakers also swept the top three spots in the high jump. Junior Molly Wyss won the high jump (4-6) and freshman Taylor Barrett (4-6) was second. Junior Molly Hlubek, who also made 4-6 took third.

Senior Jess Leu won the shot put (33-6) and junior Brooke McBain was second (33-1). Leu added a second place in the discus (84-3) and McBain was third (77-10).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Kendra Sigg took second in the 800 (2:37.46) and in the 1,600 (5:44.23).

Yurs took second in the 400 (1:06.32) freshman Nicole Witt was third (1:08.12). Junior Kirstie Hinojosa took second in the 100 hurdles (:17.94) and senior Abby Jacobson was third in the 300 hurdles (:52.73). Senior Corinne Frutiger finished second in the pole vault (8-0).
