MONROE - The WIAA released the girls basketball tournament brackets on Sunday.

Monroe (5-16) received a No. 9 seed in the top half of the Division 2 Janesville Craig sectional and will play at eighth-seeded Portage (9-11) on Tuesday, March 6. The Cheesemakers lost at Portage 51-46 in January. If Monroe wins the opener against the Warriors, the Cheesemakers would play at No. 1 seed Monona Grove.

"I think it was pretty clear cut when you look at the head-to-head that Mount Horeb was going to get the 7, Portage was going to get the 8 and we were going to get the 9," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "It wasn't a surprise."

Mathiason said the Cheesemakers have a feel for playing in Portage's gym.

"We will go back and look at the tape and see what they did," Mathiason said. "We have a familiarity in that setting. It still will come down to whether we can execute, make shots and play good defense."

Black Hawk (18-2, 10-1 Six Rivers East) received a No. 1 seed in Division 5 and will host Green Lake.
