PLATTEVILLE - Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis used the quadrangular Tuesday at Platteville as a chance to find out more about his team in terms of building relays for the Badger South Conference meet and WIAA Division 2 regional later this season.
Monroe finished second in the quad with 87 points. Platteville racked up 127 points to win the quad. Richland Center took third (32) and River Valley was last (20).
"We were not trying to win it," Davis said. "We were just running people in a workout. We ran kids in events they normally don't do. We wanted to get an idea of who some of our fastest are for our relays so we ran some kids in open races. This meet helped us get an idea of where everyone is at time-wise to take the guess work out of it."
Monroe sophomore Faith Koester won the triple jump (30 feet, 4 inches) and took second in the high jump (4-10). Freshman Cassi Gersbach won the 100-meter dash (13.46) and finished second in the triple jump (30-2).
Senior Jordan Hirsbrunner won the 400 with a time of 1 minute, .62 seconds and won the long jump (15-111⁄2). Hirsbrunner added a second-place finish in the 200 (26.2) and a second in the shot put (31-3).
Sophomore Cammi Ganshert won the 200 (25.97).
Senior Lexus Trickel placed third in the long jump (15-3).
Natalie Faith won the 3,200 (14:11). Senior Sydney Schultz took third in the discus (87-2), and senior Casey Rielly was third in the 100 (13.7).
In the boys quad, Monroe also took second (65 points). Platteville ran away with the team title (145). Richland Center finished third (36) and River Valley was last (20).
"It's one of the meets where we wanted to use this as some speed work and to work on our field events," Monroe boys track coach Scott Mosher said.
Monroe junior Jonah Tostrud won the 400 (54.9). Tostrud teamed with juniors Brayden Zettle, Jacob Meier and Jason Koller to win the 1,600 relay (3:35.2). Zettle teamed with Koller, sophomore Jordan Montgomery and junior Jevon Gibson to win the 800 relay (1:36.2).
