MONROE - The Monroe Brewers got just two hits off Hollandale's Jarrod Rear, but they were able to manufacture some runs to knock off the Rockies 5-3 in a Home Talent League game Sunday, June 30.

The Brewers (4-6) got hits from Scott White, Taylor Riese, Matt Busjahn and Seth Dascher. Dascher reached base twice and had four stolen bases and scored two runs.

"That was a key for us to get (Dascher) on base and running him around, loosened up the offense a little bit," Monroe manager Jeff Newcomer said. "Everyone showed up ready to play."

Hollandale was plagued by five errors. Rear pitched six innings and gave up just two hits. He struck out 10 and walked eight.

Monroe's Ben Conway pitched a complete game and gave up three runs, but just one earned run on six hits. He struck out eight and walked four.

"(Conway) did a really good job today," Newcomer said. "He kept batters off-balance. He kept the ball down and got a lot of ground balls."

Blanchardville 7, Ridgeway 3

RIDGEWAY - Blanchardville stayed in contention for a Home Talent League Western Section title with a 7-3 win over Ridgeway Sunday, June 30.

Mike Pliemling pitched seven strong innings and hit a two-run home run to power the Bullets to the win. After winning just nine games the last three years, Blanchardville (8-1) is in the mix for the title with Verona (9-1), Argyle (7-2) and Wiota (7-2).

"To be honest, this is really the same lineup we have had the last few years," Blanchardville manager Eric Strahel said. "I have said we have always had the talent. It's a man's league and we needed some pitching. They are all in their mid-20s and just starting to grow into themselves. They are showing what I thought they could do. It feels great because they have had some hard times with two, three and four wins."

Wiota 10, Shullsburg 3

WIOTA - Jeff Solberg did a little bit of everything to carry Wiota to a 10-3 win over Shullsburg Sunday, June 30.

Solberg went 2-for-4 and pitched eight innings to help the Indians remain in a battle for the Western Section title, just one game behind Blanchardville and Verona.

"We will be in the final six and in the playoffs unless something really falls apart," Wiota manager Dick Schliem said.

Solberg gave up three runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked four. Wiota's Merrill Brunson was 2-for-5.

Wiota hosts Western Section co-leader Verona at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 4 and the Indians still have two more games against Argyle.

"It's definitely a must-win game because we still have two games against Argyle. They are a good club and we would like to split with them. Verona is in the driver's seat."
