Monroe, two area teams compete in indoor meet at UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE - Four Monroe boys track athletes placed in the top three and two relays finished second at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville high school Invitational Tuesday.

Monroe senior Nick Walker won the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 8 1/2 inches and Jake Hirsbrunner finished first in the high jump (6-0). Monroe's Michael Krohn took fourth in the shot put (43-11).

Monroe senior Caleb Ahrens took third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds and Ethan Moehn was third in the 1,600 (4 minutes, 53.62 seconds).

Darlington senior Alex Erickson won the 200 (:23.80) and junior Kent Miehe finished first in the 800 (2:11.75). Sugar River sophomore Ryan McCoy took first in the 3,200 (10:01.70) ahead of Darlington's Quinn Cullen who was second (11:11.60). Sugar River senior Dennis Haak took third in the 1,600 (5:01.92).

The Redbirds had two of the top three in the 800 as Matt McDaniel took third (2:15.92). Darlington senior Zach Brown finished second in the triple jump (39-8) and second in the high jump (5-10). Darlington senior Tucker Wiegel finished second in the 55 (:6.83) and Monroe's Skyler Stingley was fourth (:7.06). Darlington's Cedric Flesher took third in the long jump (18-6 1/2).

The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team finished second (1:38.46). Sugar River's 3,200 relay team finished second (8:53.86) and Monroe was third (8:57.87). The Redbirds won the 1,600 relay (3:44.24) and Sugar River was third (3:49.84).

In the girls competition, Monroe had three of the top four in the 55-meters. Senior Jaclyn Ditter won the 55 (:7.57), freshman Lauren Werth was second (:7.79) and Maria Eberle took fourth ((:7.96). Darlington's Carly Reilly took third (:7.92).

Monroe senior Jess Leu won the shot put (34-9 1/2) and Darlington's McKenzie Pickett was third (33-5 1/4). Darlington senior Chayse Hermanson took first in the triple jump (31-9) and Hannah Huffman finished first in the long jump (14-10 3/4). Huffman added a third place finish in the 400 (1:06.12).

Sugar River's Madeline Brunner took second in the long jump (14-8) and Monroe's Brenna Bazley was third (14-7). Darlington sophomore Cheyenne Wolfe finished second in the 3,200 (13:24.74) and Sugar River's Victoria Ortgiesen was second in the 55 hurdles (:9.97).

The Cheesemakers won the 3,200 relay with a time of 10:59.83, which was less than a second ahead of Fennimore. Darlington took second in the 800 relay (2:00.85), second in the 1,600 relay (4:32.87) and third in the 3,200 relay (11:11.26).

Sugar River's Ashley Brusveen was second in the high jump (5-) and Cassidy Chambers was third (4-8). Darlington's Chelsea Fortin was third in the pole vault (8-6)
