Monroe track teams outduel Cards

BRODHEAD - Both the Monroe boys and girls track teams jumped out to fast starts Tuesday and posted wins over Brodhead-Juda in their first outdoor dual meet.

The Monroe girls defeated Brodhead-Juda 90-55.

Monroe junior Stephanie Wyss won the high jump (4 feet, 10-inches) and the 200-meter dash (28.4 seconds).

Meaghan Tomasiewicz took first in the pole vault by clearing 10-0, and she cleared 4-10 in the high jump for second place. Brodhead-Juda's Shannon Klein finished first in the 400 with a time of 1 minute, 2.1 seconds. Monroe's Tess Seichter took first in the 1,600 (5:58.4).

Brodhead senior Cassie Wymer won the 800 (2:39.1) and the long jump (15-2 1/2). Wymer also helped the Cardinals win the 800 and 1,600 relays.

She teamed with Amanda Johnson, Rachel Nolte and Larissa Klemm to win the 800 relay with a time of 1:56.2.

Brodhead's Anne Hamel won the 100 (:18.7) and 300 (:55.1) hurdles. She also was a key component of the Cardinals' first-place 1,600 relay, which won with a time of 4:33.4. Heather Clankie won the discus with a throw of 94-2. The Cheesemakers won the 400 and 3,200 relays.

In the boys competition, Monroe coasted past Brodhead-Juda, 107-39. The Cheesemakers won 15 of the 18 events.

Monroe senior Brett DeNure finished first in both the 800 (2:06.6) and 1,600 (4:47.3).

The Cheesemakers won five of the six field events including Jeff Hill (12 feet, pole vault); Michael Barrett (high jump, 5-10); Tad Christen (triple jump, 40-4 1/2); and Lucas Leu (discus, 143-10).

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team finished first with a time of :46.5, which was two-tenths of a second faster than the Cardinals. Caleb Ahrens, DeNure, Cullen Sampson and Bryan Tordoff teamed up to win the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:42.5.

Sampson added a first place in the 400 (:54.2), Ahrens won the 100 hurdles (:17.1) and Luke Peterson won the 3,200 (11:14).

Alex Wallace finished first in the 100 (:11.8) and the Cardinals won the 800 relay with a time of 1:39.3.
