STOUGHTON - Monroe senior Isaac Allen rushed for 110 yards and scored three touchdowns to power the Cheesemakers to a 35-13 win over Stoughton on Friday.
With the win, Monroe (8-0, 5-0 Badger South), ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press medium school state poll, clinched at least a share of the conference championship for the first time since 1998.
"We are not even discussing the partial conference title," Monroe coach Toby Golembiewski said. "We are going to win it all. This was a big game. Stoughton is a really good team. They had some injuries, but they battled."
If Monroe can knock off Fort Atkinson at home next week, the Cheesemakers will win the Badger South Conference title outright.
The Cheesemakers gashed the Vikings rolling up 318 total rushing yards. Monroe senior Cole Murray put the Cheesemakers on the board with a 1-yard TD run in the first quarter. With 54 seconds to go in the first quarter, Allen scored on a 1-yard TD plunge to give Monroe a 14-0 lead.
Stoughton battled back and Steven Malueg connected with Darvin Peeples on a 43-yard TD pass in the second quarter to cut the Cheesemakers' lead to 14-10. The Cheesemakers responded with Allen bowling in for a 2-yard Td run to give Monroe a 21-10 lead at the half.
"Isaac really did a great job of finishing," Golembiewski said. "It was Cole (Murray), Jacob (Kind) and Tyler (Elmer) doing a lot of the work to move the ball down the field. We really had to grind it out."
Kind rushed for 106 yards on 17 carries and Murray had 84 rushing yards on 16 carries and one touchdown.
Allen added a 18-yard TD run in the third quarter to extend the Cheesemakers' lead to 28-10. Monroe senior quarterback Tyler Elmer hooked up with Murray on a 30-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
Elmer was 4 of 5 passing for 81 yards with one touchdown. Monroe junior Brayden Zettle had two interceptions. The Cheesemakers have now forced 15 turnovers in eight games.
"It adds to the team and it makes the offense's job easier," Golembiewski said of Zettle's two interceptions.
