PRAIRIE DU SAC - Junior Jordan Hirsbrunner scored a team-high 15 points and was one of six players in double figures who helped Monroe High School girls basketball team roll to a 73-56 win over Sauk Prairie Tuesday night.

Monroe (9-11, 3-7 Badger South) led by just two points at the half. The Cheesemakers outscored the Eagles 41-26 in the second half.

"In the second half, I was just really proud," Monroe coach Sam Mathiason said. "The kids did a nice job of making the extra pass and cutting. I just thought we shared the ball well and moved the ball well. It was a nice team game."

With Sauk Prairie in the same WIAA Division 2 sectional as Monroe, the game was important for the Cheesemakers' postseason outlook.

"Tonight, we were playing for seeding," Mathiason said. "It should help with the seeding on Saturday. It's hard to know what will happen. Defensively, we did a nice job to slow them down and make them work harder."

Monroe senior Brooke Adams and freshman Sydney Hilliard each added 13 points. Adams hit three 3-pointers. Junior Lexi Hilliard scored 12 points. Sophomore Sydney Mathiason and freshman Emily Benzschawel each added 10 points.

The Cheesemakers made 20 of 23 free throws.

Monroe will play at Monona Grove on Friday.

"Hopefully, we can keep building on our performance from tonight," Mathiason said.
