EVANSVILLE - The Monroe High School boys golf team placed third at the 15-team Evansville Invitational on Friday at Evansville Country Club.
Lodi won the invitational by shooting a 316. Edgerton finished second (334), which was five strokes ahead of the Cheesemakers (339).
"It was a step in the right direction," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. "The guys agreed that we definitely left some shots out there. We could have done even better."
Monroe sophomore Jack Rogerson shot an 11-over-par 83 to finish 10th. Senior Devon Boeck carded an 84 and tied for 11th.
Senior Kyle Krebs and junior Collyn Wild each shot an 86.
"We are trending in the right direction," Rindy said.
Monroe will have back-to-back Badger South Conference dual matches next week. Monroe will play at Milton on Monday and at Stoughton on Tuesday.
"Milton has a very good team and their course is a tough place to play," Rindy said. "We will have to come ready to play."
The Cheesemakers have finished ahead of Stoughton in several tournaments this season. That gives Rindy confidence.
"We have to play them there, but I think we have a good chance to beat Stoughton," Rindy said.
